Another Spring Mermaid ACEO

She's pretty saucy. Thats what happens when I go and buy myself some fine tipped brushes!

I have finally taken the time to finish this LARGE (24" x 36") piece. Okay, large for someone who lately has been painting 2.5"x 3.5" pieces!

I took a huge pile of photographs last spring in my neighbouring area. I got pretty obsessed with the changing prairie sky. My favorite time has always been twilight. I think this piece captures that moment.

I'm still working with that thick texture, I really really played with amorphous washes and clean detail. I wanted to push both as far as I could in the same painting without throwing off the balance.

I'm not putting this online as of yet, but if you contact me I can give you more details and let you know if it is still available.

Green Teapot

This is a teapot that I borrowed from my mom. It was a real challenge to get the milky designs in there!
I've been getting used to these 12" x 18" canvases and I really like the long lean shape - its really fun to compose the piece.
This piece isn't for sale online currently but if you are interested in more information, just contact me and I'll let know more!

Back with more work.

Oh boy after a whirlwind week, I'm finally back online. I've had guests, commitments, a cold.... you name it, I jammed it into this week.

I have a few pieces which I've pulled from etsy and my personal collection to hang in a retail space for a bit to see how that goes.

I find selling larger scale works online to be a bit of a challenge because the shipping cost ups the price significantly. So, for the time being I'm going to try my local market and see how that goes.

If there is a piece that "disappeared" that you were interested in that isn't there, contact me (there is a link on the right hand side) and I'll let you know if it is available still.

Also - note to my ACEO collectors, I haven't forgotten about you! I'm hoping to get a few auctions going in the next week. Keep checking back for more details!

Where oh where have I been?

See this lovely milky pear colour? Do you know how hard this colour is to mix and paint?
For me, it has the unfortuneate habit of coming onto the canvas looking brassy. Anyhoo. I'm working on a nice large canvas that I want to get right, so hence the delay.
I'm here though. I'm working. Just trying to get things right.

Collection of Plates

"Mom - I need to come over and borrow some plates, I'll be there in five minutes!"
Such is inspiration sometimes. I LOVED painting this. Ellipses are freaking difficult though. I've forgotten the challenge of painting circular stuff freehand.

Mermaid for Springtime

I just love the combination of a citrus lime colour against a lush pink. To me, it says spring is coming.
Of course, looking out my window at the fresh layer of snow, one would have to feel discouraged... but I choose to hope and dream that warmer days are coming.
You can find her on auction here:

Black Iron Teapot

I've finally completed this iron teapot! I'm very pleased with the outcome.
This is basically a study of round edges against hard edges and cold white light against warm brown and red tones. I really enjoyed playing with the different surfaces.
I used a favorite textured technique with this, I find it a challenge to paint the image over all the bumps and ridges. When it comes time to do some shadows and highlights I do very light washes of colour over the ridges and that settles into the grooves creating a load of depth.
You can find it on sale here:

New on Etsy... Doll Tents!

These super cool tents were made by my Mother in Law, Betty Wiebe. She spent hours on each one making sure that they were durable and ready for hours of imaginative play.
You can find three so far, but I have more that I haven't listed yet - contact me (there is a link in the sidebar on the right) if you would like some more details.
Here is what is listed:
Thanks for looking!
