Good Friday - the Easter Eggs are Coloured!

Who would have thought that with a couple of elastic bands, star stickers, circular binder paper reinforcment stickers and some food colouring we would have ended up with this gorgeous assortment.

The kids were so fun this year because they were largely independant - they could be left to do whatever they pleased with thier half dozen eggs. So fun.

Oh Where Oh Where Did My Listings Go?

You may have noticed a few paintings missing from my etsy shop - I've taken them down temporarily for a few "in real life" things. Keep checking back or contact me if you need more info!

Palm Sunday

Anyone who knows me really well knows I am a nut for Icons and mosaics and the like. To mark Easter week, I figured I would post a really old piece that I did of Christ crucified. It is notable in that it is one of only a handful of palette knife paintings and I painted it at a time when I was renewing fledgling painting career.
Anyways. There you have it. If you were hoping to catch the finished Koi painting - check back in a few days!

Koi Commission - Starting the Details

Here you can see that I'm starting to give each fish it's distinctive details. I'm also adding thin washes of paint to the rocks and sand.

Koi Commission - Deepening the Colours

Now I'm cleaning up edges and brightening colours. I have started adding thin thin washes of paint as well.

Koi Commission - The basic layout

I've now laid out the general composition and done a first layer of colour for every item so I can tell what is what. Its interesting to me how much longer it takes to "explain" things on a large canvas when you have been doing ACEO and other small format pieces for a while.

Koi Commission - the Behemoth

Check out the size of this thing. 40"x 40" doesn't seem big until you try and fit it on your puny easel!

This is the canvas in its first stage, being prepped. The sides are painted and I lay a yellow ground and texture.
